Sita

In the scriptures, Sita the wife of Ram is repeatedly asked to prove her purity and devotion, most notably through a trial by fire. Her body becomes the site of proof of love disguised as pain, her suffering a measure of virtue. Across time, women have been made to bleed, endure, and sacrifice to validate their chastity within patriarchal systems. This film records movement and her dance during the trial.
